Where Do They Learn These Things? Part Two

Abe is learning a lot of words lately and so when he looked down at his feet and pointed and said, "foot" I was really proud of his efforts. Only he didn't say "foot" exactly, he said "fook" which sounded a lot like you know what. He said it a few times and Kelly and I praised him for learning a new word (albeit unfortunate pronunciation). Later that day we went house hunting and walked into a home that had all tile floors which made for a nice echo when we spoke. The kids noticed this, especially Abe, and decided to use his new word, fook, to yell over and over again so he could hear the echo. The realtor was kind enough to ignore this outburst. And so to answer my own question, I really think my kids get this propensity for swearing from their father because I only swear in my head. (Just kidding, Kelly.)

Where Do They Learn These Things?

Today Lilly and I were putting together a puzzle and when we were finished she tried to pick it up without any pieces breaking apart. Some did and I hear her little voice say, "Shhh, damn." I paused. Did she really say what I think she said? In a very sweet, loving, non-judgmental voice I asked, "What did you say?" Lilly repeated, "Shhh, damn." I paused again. Do I let it go and hope she never says it again or do I casually suggest alternative ways to show frustration? Not wanting her to say damn at church or around other four year olds and their mothers, we talked about other things to say like "Oh goodness" or "Ah man". She thought it was a fun game and the subject was closed. Later, I told Kelly about what Lilly said and he was very quick to say she didn't get that from him. But, still, I have to wonder...

10k

This weekend my dad drove up from California to visit with our family and run my first 10k with me. The weather for the race was perfect. It was nice and cool and started to sprinkle a little during the first part of the run. I was hoping there wouldn't be too many hills, but the first three miles were uphill just about all the way. The course was out and back and the last part right before you turn around was a very steep incline and although it was only for 1/10th of a mile, I was pretty sure that I was going to die. In fact, I wanted to cry and beg for mercy. Finally I reached the top and turned around and saw the temple right there. I had no idea that's where we were, so that was kind of neat. Anyway, there were still some rolling hills to get through and then it was all downhill for about the last two miles. I was dying and I wasn't sure why I signed up to do it in the first place, but finally it was over and it really was a great experience. My dad was really encouraging and he pushed me to go faster than I normally would have and I finished in 56:37. I'm pretty happy with that. Then my kids got to eat some yummy post race treats and we went home. Good times.

Our Hiking Adventure

A couple of weeks ago, my family and I drove over to Red Rock Canyon and did some hiking. We really had a great time and the weather was perfect. The kids really had fun, especially Lilly who really loved the hiking and exploring. In the second picture, you'll notice that Abe is riding on Kelly's back. Well, we were only about half way done with the one mile hike when Abe started pinching the back of Kelly's neck and Kelly couldn't get him to stop. It's really funny looking back on it, but poor Kelly's neck was really red and scratched up. That Abe is really a maniac.

What About Abe?

I realize that I haven't written very much about Abe. That's because we're scared of him. Just kidding...kind of. By the way, this is a picture of when we let Abe stand on a wall overlooking the canals in Venice. He's a funny kid but man, he can be mean. When he gets mad he'll pick up anything within his reach and hold it over his head like he's about to throw it. We all then proceed to duck and cover and I command him (beg, actually) to put down his weapon (a.k.a. sippy cup) or I tell him I'll take it away. Sometimes he'll slowly lower it down all the while giving you the evil eye. Just when you think you're safe, he'll quickly put it over his head again like he's going to chuck it right at your forehead. When we're not fearing for our lives, we usually have to hide our faces so he can't see us laughing. He's wild and we love him. Posted by Picasa

A Day With The Girls

About a week and a half ago, Kelly's parents and sister came to visit and all the girls went to get manicures and pedicures. Lilly came with us and got her first manicure. She chose a lovely shade of iridescent green. It was a lot of fun and she keeps asking when we can go back. I tell her she can go back when she can pay for it herself. Just kidding. It was only 5 bucks for her. Not bad.

Kelly's embarrassed about...

I have to admit to you that my husband is embarrassed by my boring blog. He keeps saying that I need to add some color and pictures and fun information. I just want all three of you who read my blog to know that I know that my blog is colorless and plain and I like it. I take full responsibility for the contents (or lack thereof) of this blog and it in no way represents Kelly or his tastes in fancy backgrounds and cute quotes. He also will kill me after he reads this.
