Lilly's First Play

About twenty times a day, Lilly will want to play pretend and she'll tell me to pretend that she's a horse or unicorn and I'm a little girl and then she proceeds to tell me exactly what she'll say and exactly what I'll say. The other day I told her that she can't always tell me what to say. Maybe I want to have creative license of my own pretending and that she can give the scenario and then we'll just play off of each other. After all, I was pretty good at improv in my high school drama class. Well, she didn't like the idea and I told her she's too bossy (oldest child syndrome...sorry Cari). She got mad and I realized I'm trying to reason with a four year old, and so I suggest that when Abe goes down for a nap, she can write a play and I'll write down exactly what she says and then we'll act it out when daddy gets home. She was really excited about that and I was impressed with myself that I actually had a good idea and maybe some insight into Lilly's talents as a playwright. Here, then, is a play written by Lilly Sowell and transcribed by Her Mother.

The Play That You Never Had Before

Characters:
Lilly as the "unicorn"
Mom as the "princess"
Dad as the "Bad Guy"

The play is set in a little castle and it doesn't have a door to get in so that's how the bad guy gets in. The scene begins with the princess and the unicorn in the castle. The unicorn is playing outside in the yard running around and the princess is coloring inside castle.

Enter Bad Guy (BG)

BG: (growls) Goes into castle.

Unicorn: Runs inside. Runs on the side of BG and fights it with it's horn and he pushes BG outside with his nose and then pokes BG in the forehead with his horn and BG falls dead and he never comes back to life again.

Meanwhile, Princess is upstairs covering eyes and shuddering because she's afraid that the unicorn might get dead.

After BG dies, the princess comes downstairs, sees that he's dead and unicorn is alive.

Princess: Unicorn! You're alive!! (say in surprise) Princess then hugs unicorn-a big hug on the unicorn's neck.

Unicorn: Neigh!!

The End

Our Beach Vacation

Okay, so almost two weeks ago my family drove down to Laguna Beach and stayed with my sister and her family at their family's beach house. We had a really wonderful and relaxing time. We ate good food, played on the beach, enjoyed time with family, and we were exhausted by the end of it. Fortunately, Abe only cried for 4 1/2 hours out of the six it took us to get home. Anyway, we really did have a wonderful time and we were glad to see our family and have some time with them. Thanks again, sister dear, we'll happily come back anytime... Hint, hint.

Lilly's First Tball Game

Lilly's first game was last Saturday. She had a great time and really likes to play sports. She loves to run and is really quite competitive. After she ran home the first time, she decided to do it again and ran around the bases a second time while other players came up to hit the ball. She doesn't like to conform.

p.s. The pink high-top converse were her idea and yes, it is a fashion statement.

A Conversation With Lilly

Lilly is a very thoughtful girl. She thinks about things and asks LOTS of questions. Here is a sample of some of the things Lilly thinks about. This conversation happened just a couple of days ago...

L: Where your potty comes out is kind of like a blow hole."
Q: What made you think of that?
L: It's kind of like a blow hole on a humpback whale... But it doesn't spray up. It sprays down.

She has a point.
