Now I get it

So just because something says "child proof" it doesn't mean Abe proof. For example, Kelly found two open and empty bottles of infants tylenol in Abe's room. He got them open and drank the two nearly full bottles. Another call to poison control. Is it 3 strikes and you're out?

Book club follow up

Hey, just fyi, but there's swearing and talk about sex [insert giggle here] in I Am The Messenger. I just started reading it so I don't know to what extent but a few of you had mentioned you wanted to do the book club so I wanted to make you aware of this in case it's not your thang. I'll be sure to post next months selection as well, so any who don't do it this month can join us the next. It's just gonna be the hottest club since the poker "club" went down;-)

The time has come

Okay everybody, I'm starting a book club. The first selection is I Am The Messenger by Marcus Zusak. The first meeting will be held at Cafe Rio on February 25th at approximately 6 p.m. There are two rules: 1. you have to read the book. 2. no church books allowed. I know of one person who already is doing it with me, so please come, but even if you don't, Meghan and I will still have fun reading books and getting more smarter.

What I learned today...

Also can be titled, I am an idiot.
Here is a list of things I learned from approximately 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. tonight:
1. When you tell your son to wash his hands after he goes to the bathroom and he says he has but with a sly grin, he's lying.
2. When you tell your son to return to the bathroom and wash his hands but he takes an unusually long time to do it, he's not washing his hands, he's doing something naughty.
3. When your son doesn't return for quite some time, get your butt off the treadmill and check on the boy because he's not just emptying out the liquid soap container as you may have thought.
4. When you go into the bathroom and your son is holding a random sample box of ambien and one of the pills is missing and your son is chewing some of the foil and paper that covers the pill, he most likely ate a pill.
5. When you panic and yell at your son, "DID YOU EAT ONE OF THESE?!?!?!?!?!?" and he says "no" he's lying because he's scared of you.
6. Poison control's phone number is 1-800-222-1222
7. They don't recommend you force your child to throw up anymore, but since I already had, they said it won't hurt.
8. Milk is good. I'm glad my son likes milk. Make your kids drink milk if your an idiot like me.
9. When your son, who just ingested an adult sleeping pill for insomniacs is instead extremely hyper and refuses to go to bed until a good hour and a half after said incident, you begin to wonder (again!) what's wrong with this kid?
10. When you totally mess up as a parent, but your child turns out to be okay, you just feel so grateful. And relieved. And thankful to have such a wild and sweet and hilarious boy safe in his bed asleep (finally!) even if you do have to check on him every hour throughout the night to make sure he's still okay (per toxicologist's orders).

Christmas (finally!) in brief Part 1

This Christmas we were fortunate to have Kelly's mom stay with us for a while preceeding the holiday and through a series of cancelled flights she was with us Christmas morning as well. As much as I like not packing up the kids and presents for Christmas, I sure do miss being with family so it was an extra treat to have Kathleen here.

Waiting anxiously at the top of the stairs in our new duds.

Oliver sporting his new hat.

Who's brilliant idea was it to get Abe a gun? {mine!}

Lilly sporting her new ballerina gear while opening presents.

Sewing stuff

For the last several years I've attempted sewing little things for each of the kids as part of their Christmas. It's become my most favorite gift and also the most stressful. All these things I made for the kids came from this book. I made the big yellow zig zag "buddy" for Abe, the taggie blanket thing and giraffe-like rattles for Oliver (who i've now decided to call Finn), and I made the little head scarf for Lilly. I had lots of other things I wanted to make, but I had to let go cause I was exhausted and going crazy, but that's not too unusual these days.

p.s. even though I think everything looks pretty cute in the picture, I made LOTS of mistakes and am grateful that the kids don't know the difference.

It's good to be humble

He's gonna hate me but this makes me laugh you have no idea!!!! I'm laughing so hard I. can. hardly. type.

Sometimes Kelly and I play "If I looked like this (insert funny/weird/ugly face here) would you still love me?" I just don't know if I could, honey. I just don't know...

Confessions

I cleaned my sink today. As long as I live I will NEVER confess to anyone how long it had been since I'd cleaned it. I would look at it and think, "what kind of person leaves a sink looking like this? A disgusting person." And then I'd turn and look away because it was just to awful to deal with. But now it's clean and maybe, just maybe, I'll stop thinking that I'm the worst housekeeper in the world.
I also cleaned one of the 3 stinking toilets that are in this house. I put on my latex glove and grabbed some clorox wipes and cleaned away and the thought that repeatedly entered my head is how hard is it to point and shoot? There is quite possibly nothing more disgusting than scraping dried up urine off of a toilet. And I don't get PAID for this? Too much information?

And finally, I LOVE this picture with all of my heart. Growing up not getting along with my brother (you know, the gorilla?) I have such hopes that these two will love each other. And if they don't I've decided to make them stand in the front yard hugging each other until they do.

p.s. I've got so many posts coming up it's gonna be wild!
