Date Night
Monday night we had a date night with our little family of four. It started off with dinner at Cafe Rio (of course) and then on to...

...Target to get some last minute supplies (i.e. diapers). We had some very unhappy campers and threatening them with no dessert was the only thing that worked. We may not have their respect, but at least we have ice cream.

A Couple of Projects
I was really excited to put together a nursery for the baby because this is the first time we've been able to paint walls and decorate. Not knowing the sex of the baby I picked out some really cute gender neutral bedding from Target online, but when I got ready to order it I noticed it had been discontinued and the only place to get it was from ebay and it was selling for a pretty penny. So I get this lofty idea that I'll just go ahead and make a bumper and buy a crib sheet to go with it. Now, I'm not very good at sewing but for some reason I always think I can just whip these things right up. Not so. But at least it's done and I feel quite good for my accomplishment. The colors are much brighter than shown in the picture and I'm hoping that this cute fabric makes up for the uneven sewing lines.
I was able to also make a quilt with A LOT of help from a friend in the ward. This is my first attempt at quilt making and I learned a lot. The quilt totally doesn't go with the other baby bedding and I probably would have changed a few of the fabric choices if I could have forseen how it would have turned out, but I'm happy about it nontheless. These projects would have taken a more experienced seamtress probably half the time, but I'm so glad they're done. When the nursery is complete I'll post a picture of that too.
Giving In
One of my parenting philosophies is to let my kids choose their own clothes when they're willing and able. I try not to intervene although I have tried to pursuade them in certain directions...sometimes. I even let Abe wear Lilly's glass slippers to Target the other day and had a good laugh looking at my little boy clickety clacking down the aisles. But today I had to say something. He loves his spiderman socks and wanted to wear them even with his sandals to church. "Abe" I said, "Don't you know you're committing fashion suicide!?!?" It made me think of poor returned missionaries and Provo and just all thoughts were unpleasant. He wasn't to be pursuaded otherwise and instead of enduring a meltdown, he wore the socks with sandals. And as I have learned, my boy doesn't like to follow rules, fashion or otherwise.
Sparkles
Soccer started again yesterday and the team formerly known as Ariel Sparkles has now been shortened just to the Sparkles. It fits the girls, I think. Lilly is delighted with the pink uniforms this season. We witnessed the first massacre yesterday afternoon when the score was like a gazillion to zero. We've got some work to do, but the girls did play their little hearts out.
Six
Lilly lost her first tooth just a day or so after her 5th birthday. Now, a year later she's lost six and all of the new teeth are in varying stages of coming in. We tease her that we're going to have to start mashing all of her food up for her on account of her not having any teeth. This last time, she was a bit disappointed that the tooth fairy left her a dollar made out of paper instead of coins. If only she knew how close the tooth fairy came to not coming at all. Doesn't she look cute?

It's PREschool, Thank You Very Much
Abe started preschool last week and boy, weren't we ALL excited! Besides holding my hand a little bit tighter than usual upon entering the home (the preschool is held at a woman's house), he did great and was so excited to go back the next time. We're not allowed to call it just "school", it has to be preschool or he won't respond and gets very aggitated. Here are some pictures of the first day. Abe's new favorite face for the camera is featured in the first and third pictures.
