Quote of the Day

Yesterday we went swimming with some friends at their community pool. As we were trying to gather up all our gear to leave and just as a family of 6 were about to enter the pool, my dear Abe yelled, "I JUST WENT POTTY IN THE POOL!"
His timing couldn't have been better.

Huh?

Conversation with Lilly whilst doing her hair
L: Mom, do you like funky?
Q: Yeah funky's the best.
L: Well, I don't like funky.
Q: Why? Cause it's different?
L: Yeah.
Q: It's good to be different.
L: Well, I like myself.
Q: That's good. That's important.
L: But I don't like funky.
Q: Well, what's funky to you?
L: Funky is what Shrek wears.
At this point I was stumped. I don't get it. But, if I like funky and Shrek wears funky...what is she trying to tell me????

An open letter to Kelly from his son

Dear Dad,
Look at this face! I deserve better. I mean, mom has been asking (oh so politely) for weeks for you to get down Abe's old clothes out of the overhead storage in the garage.

I look like an orphan!
Love,
Finn

what i made

I've been feeling the need to create lately. I finally made Lilly some skirts using this easy tutorial. It was fun to see them on her and know that they're one of a kind. Well, actually the yellow chevron skirt is the second one cause the first one got stained by a popsicle. It was annoying. I actually really enjoy sewing and although I have a lot to learn, there's so many great and easy projects online. It's fun to sew for Lilly, too, cause she's so girly and likes to wear dresses and bows and frills.

Another recipe

Some people have shown interest in a pasta salad I made so I thought I'd post it here in case there were others who'd like the recipe as well. I got it from a blog called Kath eats real food found here. I don't know why she calls herself Kath, but she's got a lot of good info on super healthy eating.

Feta & Veggie Pasta Salad
4 oz. whole wheat penne
1 med. cucumber, chopped
1 small/medium zucchini, chopped and seared in a skillet
1 can diced tomatoes, drained (I used these beautiful little heirloom tomatoes cause the thought of canned tomatoes in a pasta salad sounds gross)
15 chopped olives
8 oz. block of fat-free feta
Dressing:
2 tsp. olive oil
2 tbsp. red wine vinegar
1 heaping tsp. sun-dried tomatoes in oil
juice of half small lemon
1 tsp. honey
oregano
pinch of salt and pepper
makes 3 servings about 330 calories each
*I, of course, bought all the ingredients from Trader Joes which just happens to be one of my favorite places on the planet (and yes, I don't get out much). Obviously they are also available at other grocery stores.

Week in Review

I had a good week. Here's some of what happened:
-Tuesday was my birthday! I got spoiled. It felt good.
-I took my kiddies to the park and the water had already been turned on. When I wasn't looking Abe stripped down to show off his white cheeks and got in the water. I noticed a lady laughing really hard and then I saw him. I was dying. It was hilarious and after I had him dressed I noticed all the mothers (and there were lots) laughing. It was the best part of my day!
-Oliver is doing really well at going to sleep on his own for naps and bedtime. I'm never sure how long he'll nap for, but it's keeping me home and I'm back to cooking and cleaning and eating too much.
-Kelly and I went out on an actual date last night (sans Oliver cause he was already down for the night). It felt so wonderful. I'm addicted and now that dear Oliver goes to bed so early, I plan on getting a babysitter as often as I can so we can party.
-I've been thinking all week about some goals for the future. There's a lot I want to change/improve/do away with for this coming year. I'm not getting any younger (even if I look like I am ha ha) and I'm ready to really start living. Baby steps.
